Walk and hike through snow-covered forests on a winter holiday in Filzmoos, Austria

Winter and snowshoe hiking

Snow enchants the landscape completely - meadows are covered with delicate white crystals that glitter in the wintry sun and the snow-covered trees look like fairy-tale figures wrapped in bright white coats. The peaks of the Bischofsmütze and Dachstein mountains reach out brightly illuminated into the deep blue winter sky.

It is time for a romantic walk on the winter hiking trails of Filzmoos or a snowshoe hike into the forests of the Neuberg winter wonderland.

Guided snowshoe hike

Hike with our guide from Filzmoos Active through a landscape that is otherwise inaccessible in winter. Embark on a mysterious search for tracks. We offer a guided snowshoe hike once a week. We also provide the right snowshoes for free. Snowshoes and sticks are available free of charge in the hotel for our guests.

Winter hiking on 50 km cleared paths

The cleared winter hiking trails start right on our doorstep. A total of 50 kilometres lead through snow-covered forests and impressive views around Filzmoos. Particularly popular are those at the edge of the road or have as a destination an Alpine hut which provides physical well-being and a cosy warm-up. Going along the valley, up to the Alpine pastures or on top of the Rossbrand with 360 degrees all-round visibility, you can feel the winter particularly clearly on foot.

Good footwear in winter

You need good, firm winter hiking shoes for winter hiking and for tours with snowshoes. You can dry your wet shoes and clothes in our shoe room.

The Rossbrand high-altitude hiking trail

Highly recommended

With the Papageno gondola in Filzmoos, we go to the Rossbrand at 1,770 metres altitude. Once you have reached the top, the high-altitude hiking trail awaits you. From the mountain station it goes in serpentines to the panoramic curve. Continue up to the post office tower, which you can also see from the valley, and through the forest until you exit the trail. Then it’s up towards the Radstädter Hütte and to the summit cross - there is a stopover at the Karhütte or Radstädter Hütte. A fascinating panoramic view! The tour lasts approx. 1.5 to 3 hours in medium difficulty.

The Rossbrand is a great viewing mountain. In a 360° panorama you look over the lower and higher Tauern range, the Grossglockner, Großvenediger, Hochkönig and of course over our local mountain the Bischofsmütze.
